GENERAL INFORMATION
At the NATO Chess Championship, each of the 31 NATO members is able to compete with a team of up to six players, a Team Captain and a Team Official.
The championship will consist of seven rounds and will be scored both as a team and an individual tournament, in accordance with the rules of the International Military Chess Committee.
A Blizz Tournament will be organised on 8 September 2023.
All competitions will be conducted in compliance with the rules and restrictions on the dissemination of Covid-19 in force in the Republic of Slovenia at that time.
Additional measures and requirements will be communicated to the participants in due time.
Each of the 29 NATO members is entitled to participate in the NATO Chess Championship with a team of six players, a captain and an official representative.
The championship shall be held over seven rounds, with the results of the teams and individuals counting, in accordance with the rules of the International Military Chess Committee.
The Rapid Chess Tournament will be organised on 8 September 2023.
All competitions will be conducted in compliance with the rules and restrictions on the dissemination of Covid-19 in force in the Republic of Slovenia at that time.
Additional measures and requirements will be communicated to the participants in due time.
Access to the venue
The tournament will be held at the Bernardin Congress Centre in Portorož.
The transportation of participants will be provided from Ljubljana (Jože Pučnik Airport or the Ljubljana train station) to Portorož and back. Participants arriving with their own vehicles should come directly to the venue (Hoteli Bernardin, Obala 2, 6320 Portorož). The organiser does will not provide transportation from any other location.
Accomodation
Accommodation and meals are included from dinner on Sunday, 3 September, until breakfast on Satruday, 9 September 2023. Accommodation has been organised and booked for all participants that have requested so in their informal applications. Accommodation prices are provided

TEAM RESULTS

It is an open tournament where all FIDA ID chess players have to right to participate. There is no registration fee. The Blitz Tournament will include participants from 17 NATO nations. Free parking for all tournament participants is arranged at the Hotel Bernardin car park.
Mandatory pre-registration until 5 September at 20.00 via email: sah.drobnemarjan@gmail.com, or using the registration forms on the chess federation's website. When registering, please provide your first and last name, as well as your FIDE ID. Registrations will be confirmed. Equipment will be provided by the organizer. Closing of application confirmations: Friday, 8 September 2023 at 14.45.
Game system:
- The tournament will be played according to FIDE chess rules, Swiss system, 11 rounds, game time 3 minutes with an increment of 2 seconds per move. The tournament will be rated using FIDE Blitz chess ratings.
- Criterion in case of the equal number of points: Head-to-head result within the same point group, Buholc 1, Buholc.
- In the event that all criteria are equal, a golden duel is played, and the color of the pieces is drawn.
- In the case of 2 draws, an additional duel is played, with White having 6 minutes and Black having 5 minutes; a draw suffices for victory.

Medals and gifts for participants are provided by the Slovenian Armed Forces as follows:
- The top three players overall receive a medal and a practical gift (book)
- The top five Slovenian players (who are not participants in the NATO Chess Tournament) receive a practical gift (promotional backpack and/or book).
The awards are mutually exclusive.
