Infantry units are a constituent element of combat forces, which, in addition to the infantry, consist of the armoured and special operations units. The basic purpose of combat forces is to defeat the enemy in direct combat with firepower and manoeuvre.
Infantry units are equipped with infantry weapons, trained for infantry combat and move on foot. In the modern world, genuine infantry units are rare, as they are predominantly equipped with vehicles to enable faster transportation, which consequently turns them into motorized units. Infantry units include mountain units specializing in mountain warfare.
